Nicholas Juett
Fantasy Landscapes
Visitors to the Oak Bistro will see Nicholas’ sublime interpretation of landscape and love of types of building, some of which no longer exist. Beautifully framed, these pictures painted in oil owe a good deal to the lucidity normally associated with water-colour techniques.
By capturing shape and form with very specific colour, the artist manipulates the representational outside the box of illustration. Instead, like John Piper’s depiction of ruined buildings (as a World War II artist) Juett paints buildings not necessarily as specific portraits but instead as icons, a more universal statement.
The series shown below resulted from the client and art collector (Meller Merceux Gallery) visiting from Oxford, enjoying a meal at The Oak Bistro in Cambridge, which led to a recommendation to commission the artist.
