“As an artist I indulge in the ambivalent pleasure of picture-making. Mindful of the quintessentially abstract nature of the process of picture making, I enter into a playful dialogue with the work in which line, shape, texture and vibrant colour are brought together to inhabit a theme usually based on Caribbean folklore and mythology. I sometimes surrender to the promptings of intuition. The work is figurative but not illustrational and is always an adventure of discovery.

When the creative momentum begins to subside and an uneasy dissatisfaction creeps in, I do something quite drastic, which looks very much like destruction; and new life leaps into the work. In my efforts to find solutions I aim always to surprise myself.”
